Forum meeting 14 June 2006

The thirteenth meeting of the Minister’s Local Government Forum was held on 14 June at the State Suite, State Administration Centre. Major topics of discussion included Stormwater Management and Flood Mitigation, Community Wastewater Management Systems (STEDS) and the Local Government Financial Sustainability Inquiry.

Minister Rankine informed the Forum of the recent State Government announcement to extend the current Community Wastewater Management System (STEDS) funding agreement for a further 12 months. The State Government has committed $3.206 million for 2006-07.

Mr Rod Hook, Executive Director, Office of Major Projects and Infrastructure, addressed the Forum on the collaborative efforts between State and Local Government resulting in a number of significant advances on this topic, including the signing of the Agreement between the State of South Australia and the Local Government Association on Stormwater Management and the State Government commitment to provide $4 million per annum (indexed to inflation) for a period of 30 years.

Members also discussed the Forum Review, the State-Local Government Relations Agreement and South Australia's Strategic Plan.
